How Luck got me to Start Blogging

OK. My blog style and content is going to start to change from this point on. I started off talking about luck but now I am actually going to put it into practice. I believe that everything you do can be either good or bad luck. It’s just what you do with it that lets you know which one it is. For example, you can blow a job interview for a position that you have been waiting your whole life for just to go to a bar and drown your sorrows. At the bar, you have the choice to sit by yourself and tear yourself apart inside or open your eyes to the big picture, meet someone at the bar that will turn out to be your new best friend, employer for a better position that you would have had at the other job, an investor or best of all a partner for your new business. This example might have been a terrible one but I only site it because it happens.
I am now sitting in bed a 2:00 am and I can’t fall asleep. I just read an article on www.stevepavlina.com on how to become a morning person, wake up on time and gain tens to hundreds of hours of awake time. While reading it, i realized that i wanted to gain those hours, be more productive and become a morning person. I immediately set my alarm clock for 6:00 am and promised myself I would get up the second the alarm goes off and i will be at the gym for an early morning workout by 6:30. Then I continued reading and it might even have been a different post on his blog but it said not to go to sleep until you are so tired that you are ready to just pass out. So, I continued reading. I read more of his blogs and a few of other people’s blogs for one to pass time until i was tired enough to go to sleep but mostly because i am at the point in my life that i want and need a change and i am looking for my lucky break. No one, well i never said that luck comes easy. It takes a lot of hard work and effort and I plan on playing with my luck until i get really lucky. At this point in my life, i am tired of working for an employer. I am tied down to so many things because I am employed. The city I live in, the apartment I am currently in, the hours i am at work, and everything else. If I want to have some personal time, it better not be between 8 am and 7 pm and it cant be too late because I need to get to sleep to start the cycle all over again. It also cant be after work because by then, i am just too tired to do anything so i go home and let the whole cycle start all over again.

Back to the blogs i was reading… its a long string of luck that brought me to this point. I liked the idea on my friend’s computer that i can open two email accounts in different tabs. I found out he was using Firefox and not IE (internet explorer) which he liked much better than the latter. I went home that day and downloaded it for free and started using it right away. Amazed at how easy it was and the features it offered, i looked around to see what else i can get out of it. I found a whole bunch of add-ons and plug-ins which would allow me to do all sorts of things such as restore an entire session (all the tabs that i had open) if my computer turns off or, who am i kidding, crashes. Of all the great add ons, i loved the “stumble” button. It is a little button on my tool bar that when pressed, it shows me a web page that someone else liked. As more people started using Stumble, the database of great sites grew and was split into categories. When I started out, I only used it for finding time-wasting laugh my ass off content. After a while, i looked into what else it could do for me besides burst my gut. I found a common interest of entrepreneurship which I signed up for and started stumbling. I read a lot of interesting articles and found a lot of great sites that would help start a business but the best this i found so far was a blog on quiting your job and starting your own business. This blog linked me to many other blogs which led me to even more and I found a nice amount of blogs that I now read on a regular basis. Most of them I signed up for RSS feeds into my google reader but some i read straight from the source.

Now I am thinking of what the best way is to break free of my job and build myself a life that I can really enjoy. I realized that I am a hard worker and that I would many times work at home to save myself work later on but then I still have to spend my daytime hours in my office. I am not scared of hard work but i would prefer to make my own hours and have more freedom. I am thinking that writing a blog might be my lucky break but only time will tell. I have a long road of learning on how to really be successful with a blog and I plan on doing it with a smile and my eyes wide open for any opportunities that come along the road. I am going to try and learn a little each day how to blog and be successful including which programs to use, how to use them and anything else I will need to know. I am not confident that I will turn blogging into a full time job but I am confident that even if i dont, it will lead me to my next opportunity.

Now it is later than the 2 am that I spoke of when I began writing this and I have to be up by 6. No excuses, just luck.

About the Author Amir Lehrer

I am a typical person more or less that has always tried to get away with doing the absolute minimum to get by. In school, I did my assignments last minute, I barely passes some of my tests, I crammed for everything and didn't care about retaining any information. I always wanted to be successful and get lucky but my problem was that I thought that luck and chance were synonymous. One day, all that changed when i found out that there was more to "Luck". I learned that it was possible to make your own luck and that people that were "lucky", all had very similar characteristics. I made a conscious decision to become one of those lucky people and the world started to open up. It didn't happen overnight and I'm still not there yet but at least I know what to look for and what to do. Recognizing the opportunities to get lucky is only the beginning of the battle. Now I have to train myself to jump on every opportunity and one day be truly "lucky".
